A friend defined church as the pursuit of God in the company of friends. Whether the reader approves or disapproves doesn't change the reality of is a significant exodus from institutional church setting in a quest for intimate relationships with both God and fellow pilgrims. Many of those on this quest seek a more organic, program free environment where each believer is a full participant in the process. I have had the opportunity over recent years to be involved in numerous conversations with many making this exodus. They are seldom angry or arrogant about the church situations they are leaving. They seem to all share the same story. That story centers around God leading them out of the busyness of the Christian machine and into a simple journey with committed friends. Most report they have seen increased personal growth and found a true freedom after taking the risk.
It is amazing to me that these believers endure this journey even with the disapproval of family and former relationships. The voice from the Lord appears to be so significant that all other voices fail to deter them. That fact reaffirms to me the hand of God is in this paradigm shift. If you read this blog and relate to what I am writing about PLEASE email me. I would love to hear your story.
I plan to begin a 3 part blog on the "temple mentality". Stay tuned!

Mickey,
Our mutual friend Mike Steele in Colorado describes "church" as a spiritual family. When I picture the body of Jesus coming together, I imagine followers of Jesus gathering like our families do at Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any other family reunion. There are no agendas, no tightly orchestrated schedule of events/activities. Just people who love one another gathering to share food and fellowship, and encouraging conversation with one another.
I'm looking forward to your "Temple Mentality" blog.

I too am looking foward to the temple mentality blog. I had been reflecting since getting together the other night how it seems we are trying to restore the temple complete with priests and temple workers when we are called to be the temple. Thank you for making yourselves available and sharing this journey with others.
hi!
